KUPANG, Indonesia (AFP) - Five European divers missing for two days were found drifting in Indonesian waters Saturday after fishermen joined the search off remote islands east of Bali, police said.

"We found them safe this morning, all five divers. They were floating in the water south of Rinca island when we found them," Manggarai Barat district police officer Victor Jumadu told AFP.

The three Britons, the Frenchman and the Swede disappeared late Thursday in the treacherous waters of the Komodo National Park in the Nusa Tenggara islands.

Divers say a combination of relatively shallow water between numerous islands in the Komodo park creates dangerous currents which can develop suddenly during tide changes.

The rips mean the divers can be carried tens of kilometres (miles) away in a matter of hours
